Speakers Biographical Information
Kris Belland, DO, MBA, MPH, MSS
Dr. Belland, President/CEO of Aerospace Medical Strategic Consultation, co-authored both the AsMA 2023 resolution on UV-C and a recent article “Safety and Effectiveness Assessment of Ultraviolet-C Disinfection in Aircraft Cabins.” After graduating from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine he earned an MBA, MPH, and MSS (Strategic Studies). He is board-certified in family and aerospace medicine. In his successful US Navy career, he served both as a flight surgeon and as a fast jet pilot (F/A-18 Hornet and F-14 TomCat), including over 2,000 flight hours and 25 combat missions. He subsequently served as Chief Medical Officer for American Airlines and as FAA Deputy Regional Flight Surgeon. He is President-Elect of the AOCOPM, Vice President of CAMA, an IAASM Academician, and has served as President of AsMA.
David Musson, MD, PhD
Dr. Musson is CEO and co-Founder of Lunar Medical Inc. formed to develop autonomous, high quality medical care systems for spaceflight, and to bring that technology back to Earth. His interests span spaceflight and aerospace medicine, medical education, artificial intelligence, and cognitive neuroscience. Following his MD at the University of Western Ontario, he served with the RCAF in Canada and internationally. He completed a PhD in Psychology and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, then founded the Centre for Simulation Based Learning at McMaster University. Dr. Musson has conducted studies on medical care delivery and has worked with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), NASA, and the National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI).
Gianluca Borghini, MEE, PhD
Professor Borghini is a researcher in the Dept. of Molecular Medicine, Sapienza University of Rome, and team Leader of the “Human Factors” Lab of the University's spin-off company BrainSigns. He received a PhD in Bioengineering and Master of Electronic Engineering at the University of Bologna. Since 2009 he has focused on the objective assessment of mental states of pilots (military and commercial) and air traffic controllers by combining behavioral, subjective, and neurophysiological data to assess training level, mental workload, stress, mental fatigue, selective attention, vigilance, and cognitive control behavior. He has worked with the Italian Air Force, Alitalia and many other companies and universities, and is author or co-author of more than 70 scientific papers.
Michael Harrison, MD, MS, MPH, PhD
Dr. Harrison is Chief Medical Officer at Axiom Space. He completed his MD, MS in Sports and Exercise, and an MS in Hyperbaric Medicine at Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands Antilles and holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Regina in Canada. Following a residency in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care at the Henry Ford Hospital, he completed an MPH at the University of Minnesota and Aerospace Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic. He spent several years in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville where he served with SpaceX as a flight surgeon for the 2020 launch of the Crew-1 Dragon, and in 2022 became Axiom CMO.
